'The only legend I have ever loved is
the story of a daughter lost in hell.
And found and rescued there.'
- from 'The Pomegranate' by Eavan Boland
Found on a house wall in Bamburgh, Northumberland. What an intriguing word. I have no idea what it means - or even what language it is - and a Google search didn't reveal much.
Could it be from Old English sonne? Or is it Dutch?
I've a vague memory that -liwe was the suffix -like in O.E?
I'd love to hear from anyone who knows...
